Mum says she splashed thousands to get perfect body in Turkey but surgeons cut into her when she was conscious & butchered her boobs

A MUM has revealed how she almost died after flying to Turkey in search of her dream body.

Sara Platts, 32, spent £14,000 on a tummy tuck, breast implants, and three additional treatments at a plastic surgery clinic in Antalya in 2023.

Sara Platts was desperate to lose weight and have the body of her dreams

However, instead of achieving the desired results, the mum-of-four was left severely disfigured and fighting for her life.

Sara is sharing her story after popstar Dani Li passed away on Wednesday after complications with liposuction surgery, leaving behind a husband and a seven-year-old daughter.

Sara's 13-hour procedure led to the necrosis and eventual loss of her right breast and a gaping, infected wound in her abdomen and now she hopes to warn others of the dangers when it comes to surgery.

“I'd had a terrible time with my health and had been on so many tablets that just contributed to my weight gain. I was unhappy and unhealthy.

"I went in for an emergency appointment because my endometriosis was out of control, and I needed an emergency hysterectomy, among other procedures.

“However, I was told they wouldn't operate because I might not survive. I was in daily agony; I couldn't be a mum or a wife – I'd just sit in bed and cry all day. The bigger I got, the more pain I endured.

“I tried gyms and various diets, but nothing helped. I'd either end up in the hospital, or something would happen, and I'd have to start all over again."

Depressed and desperate, Sara saw an advertisement about 'Get Slim Turkey.'

Before she knew it, she was on a plane – flying solo – and booked in for gastric sleeve surgery.

'Deflated tire'

"I met a lovely lady at the airport in Ireland, and we started our journey together,” she says.

“The sleeve surgery was successful and fast forward to January 2023, I had lost 12st, but I still hated my body.

“Excess skin was hanging off me, I felt like a deflated tire and my mental health was deteriorating.

“I faked smiles as everyone said I looked good, but deep down, I was sad.

“My arms, back, sides, boobs, belly, upper belly – all needed fixing," she admits.

Sara reached out to a few surgeons whom friends and family had recommended and went to meet a doctor in Antalya, the largest Turkish city on the Mediterranean coast.

"I thought he had an amazing sense of humour, and he seemed honest and trustworthy," Sara explained.

"I had been researching him and following his pages for over a year.

“I flew out with my parents to see him on 17 February and was ready to finally get the body I wanted.

“With the help of everyone around me, I managed to gather the money needed and booked an extended tummy tuck, a 360 upper body lift (including the back, under the boobs, sides, breast lift, and implants), and an arm lift.

“I was supposed to have the procedures done at intervals, starting with the tummy tuck and then having the rest six months later, but the surgeon did everything in one procedure, without my consent."

Sara’s surgery lasted over 12 hours, and when she woke up, she was in excruciating pain.

"I had a mass on my chest that looked very concerning,” she recalls.

“They put me in a compression garment that was too small, and I could hardly breathe.

"It took nine days before I finally saw a doctor, during which time brown liquid started seeping from my incisions.

“The doctor told me that corrective surgery was urgently needed.

“They rushed me to a clinic room instead of an operating theatre, where they assured me I would be sedated.

“However, I remained conscious as the surgeon cut away necrotic tissue from my abdomen and used a burning tool to cauterise the wound. I eventually passed out from the pain.

“Once I returned to the UK, I was too embarrassed and scared to seek treatment from the NHS. Instead, I went to my GP, who was horrified by my condition."

Sara was transferred to Morriston Hospital in Swansea for emergency surgery, but her abdominal sutures burst open the night before the operation.

She was diagnosed with a drug-resistant infection, which required isolation from other patients and prevented her from seeing her children for weeks.

Over the next month, she underwent eight surgeries, including the removal of most of her breasts and implants, along with extensive skin grafts to reconstruct her abdomen.

"I haven't heard from the Turkish surgeon since returning to the UK, but I believe he performed too many procedures simultaneously,” she says.

“Now, I am pursuing legal action against the surgeon, with the lawsuit set to be heard in Turkey later this month.

“My main goal is to make sure nobody else has to go through the same awful experience I did. I want people to be aware of the risks of getting plastic surgery abroad and to make those responsible take responsibility.

“Those ads make it seem all safe and sound, but trust me, from what I have seen it's far from it.
