Married Couple found dead in bed from suspected carbon monoxide poisoning

A married couple were found dead in bed at their Cotswolds home last week following a suspected carbon monoxide poisoning.

Michael and Maria Greenaway, both in their 30s, died in their house in Cirencester, Gloucestershire, and were found last Monday, May 10.

Ms Greenaway's nine-year-old son had been staying with his grandmother - Ms Greenaway's mother - the night before, according to a friend of the family.

The grandmother realised something was wrong when the boy's school called to say that Ms Greenaway had not picked him up on Monday afternoon.

She was forced to break down the front door, finding the couple lifeless in bed.

Family have been told that initial findings suggest they died from carbon monoxide poisoning, a friend of the grandmother wrote online.

Inquests were opened and adjourned yesterday at Gloucestershire Coroner's Court. However, the hearing was told the formal cause of death has not been established.

In a family statement, Mr Greenaway was described in a family statement as a 'happy go lucky' brother and son, who will be missed by many.

It said: 'We as a family are heartbroken at our loss.

'Michael has left behind his parents, mum Karen Dad Martin, sisters Manph and Emma, and much loved daughter, Millie.

'Michael was a fun loving and happy go lucky boy.

'He usually had a smile on his face. Michael was our little diamond and his early departure will leave a massive hole in our hearts for ever.'

Tributes were posted on social media, with one of Ms Greenaway's friends writing: 'Fly high angel won't forget you. Still can't believe you gone, won't forget you.'

A Gloucestershire Police spokesman said: 'The deaths are still being treated as unexplained and enquiries to establish the cause of death are ongoing.'
