Moment hero man risks his life to save 3-year-old girl dangling from window 100ft above the ground

This is the heart-stopping moment a hero neighbour risked his life to save a toddler dangling from a window 100ft above the ground.

The man climbed out of his eighth storey apartment window in Kazakhstan to catch the helpless three-year-old.

Video capturing the incredible moment showed the toddler, who was reportedly alone at home at the time, hanging by a window ledge.

That's when her neighbour on the floor below, identified as Shontakbaev Sabit, steps out of his window and tugs at her right leg and tells her to let go.

Sabit swiftly catches her, gets his balance and hands her over to someone waiting by his window.

The rescue - which took a minute to complete - happened in the country's capital Nur-Sultan on Wednesday. It's understood locals called the emergency services who told them they would not be able to reach the young girl in time, which prompted Sabit to bravely act.

Kazakhstan's ministry of emergency situations has named Sabit a hero and awarded him a medal for the speedy rescue which saved the toddler's life.

"On 11th May at 10.21am, a message was received that a child was hanging from a window on Uly Dala Street 27/1 on the eighth floor," the ministry said in a statement.

"Subdivisions of the Department of Emergency Situations of the city of Nur-Sultan, consisting of 7 personnel and 2 vehicles, were promptly sent to the scene."

By the time they arrived, Sabit had already saved the youngster.

"No one was with the girl, born in 2019. Fortunately, our hero Shontakbaev Sabit, born in 1985, seeing the hanging, crying child, without hesitation and risking his own life, took emergency action and literally caught and saved the little girl’s life in a matter of seconds," the ministry said.

Cautioning parents about leaving the kids unsupervised, the ministry said: "Dear parents, this was a happy occasion when the child was rescued safely, but there are many other incidents with a tragic outcome.

"Never leave children unsupervised by adults! Do not leave windows open if there is a small child at home, because you could be distracted for a second, and this could end your child’s life or disable them forever."
