Gran, 53, told to 'cover up' by nasty trolls – but refuses as she's in 'best shape of life'

A super-fit gran is in the "best shape of her life" after overcoming a health scare – and refuses to cover up no matter what trolls say.

Charlene Farnsworth "let her health go" after doctors tested her for throat cancer. But in her late 40s, she vowed it was time to get back in shape. She told the Mirror: "In 2011 I had a throat cancer scare. Thankfully, after surgery to remove a mass and my thyroid, it turned out to be Hashimoto's disease, not cancer.

"After my health scare, unfortunately, I let my health go. I stopped caring about myself for years. At the age of 48, I stepped, begrudgingly, on a scale."

Charlene, from Canada, started pumping iron in the gym – and soon got hooked.

When she's not working as a part-time cleaner, the 53-year-old is likely to be working out. She recently qualified as a personal trainer and is excited to teach others to get ripped like she is.

Charlene, who is often mistaken for being much younger than she actually is, said: "I didn't start my fitness and health journey until I was 48.

"I started modelling as I was about to turn 50.

"I stepped on stage in my first-ever bodybuilding competition when I was almost 53.

"I just recently completed my Personal Training Certification. Charlene has qualified as a personal trainer and hopes to help others (Image: Charlene Farnsworth)"I'm now starting my own training business, with the hopes of inspiring other middle-aged folks."

While many appreciate Charlene's fitness tips, she does receive some cruel comments from keyboard warriors who think she shouldn't be wearing skimpy clothes.

But instead of taking them to heart, she rises above them.

The gym bunny said: "As far as the trolls go, I don't concern myself with them.

"They're always out there looking for something to be negative about. comments they leave me says more about them than it does about me. It shows their own negativity and insecurities.

"I feel that everyone should wear whatever the heck they want.

"With exceptions of work, school, or anywhere that has a specific dress code.

"Age (with the exception of children, to a degree) gender, or weight should not be a determining factor as to what someone chooses to wear.

"Unfortunately, many people feel that their opinion of what people should or shouldn't wear, matters. It doesn't. Wear what makes you happy, what makes you feel good. "If more people would stop concerning themselves with what other people are wearing and concentrate on their own happiness, the world would be a better place...

"Be whoever you want to be and have the decency to let others do the same without negative judgement."
