A man extradited from Pakistan has been charged today with the murder of a woman in south London 20 years ago.

Zafar Iqbal, 61, was charged after landing in the UK with the murder of 38-year-old Naziat Khan, who was killed in Streatham in August 2001.

Iqbal is due to appear at Croydon Magistrates Court via video link tomorrow.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said Ms Khan's family have been informed of Iqbal's arrest and are being supported by specialist officers.

In a statement, the public agency said: 'A man extradited from Pakistan has been charged in connection with the murder of Naziat Khan in Streatham in August 2001.

'Zafar Iqbal, 61, was extradited from Pakistan on Tuesday, 14 September.

'After arriving in the UK he was taken to a west London police station and has since been charged.'

The CPS added the successful extradition of Iqbal was the result of collaborative work between itself, the Metropolitan Police, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the National Crime Agency.
