Donald Trump turns on Melania and blames her for worse-than-expected mid-terms

Donald Trump is said to have started blaming his wife Melania over the US mid-terms after she advised him to support a candidate.

The disgraced former president gave his backing to Republican Dr Mehmet Oz for the senate – but he lost to Democrat John Fetterman.

After the election loss Trump lashed out at several people, including his wife, according to New York Times senior political reporter Maggie Haberman.

The loss has been so humiliating that Trump is now being urged to reschedule his perceived plan to announce his 2024 campaign next week.

Haberman said: ‘Trump is indeed furious this morning, particularly about Mehmet Oz, and is blaming everyone who advised him to back Oz – including his wife, describing it as not her best decision, according to people close to him.

‘Worth remembering that Trump is a grown man who endorsed Oz over the objection of some of the people closest to him, and instead went beyond just endorsing and attacked Dave McCormick from the stage at a rally.

‘Several [Republicans] have texted asking whether he will [announce his campaign], but it’s risky and would be acknowledging he’s wounded by yesterday, something that some of his advisers insist is not the case.’

Trump was ‘livid’ and ‘screaming at everybody’ on Wednesday after Republicans failed to pull a ‘red tsunami’ in the midterms, an unnamed adviser told CNN anchor Jim Acosta.

Joe Biden has claimed vindication the day after the midterm elections, saying Democrats had ‘a strong night’ and he planned to change nothing about his approach despite facing the likelihood of divided government in the nation’s capital.

‘I’m prepared to work with my Republican colleagues,’ Mr Biden said during a post-election news conference.

‘The American people have made clear they expect Republicans to work with me as well.’
