Sobbing mother screams 'is she dead?' after finding daughter lifeless in crash wreckage

The devastated parents of a teenager killed as two young drivers raced have described their heartache on the anniversary of her tragic death.

A year ago today, Jo and Mesut Alkir's lives were torn apart when their only child Olivia died in a head-on collision.

Edward Ryan Bell, 17, had only passed his driving test the day before the horror incident.

But was irresponsible and wreckless enough to race his friend Thomas Henry Quick along the country lanes in Wales, the Daily Post reports.

It was Bell's car that Olivia was travelling in when he was involved in a head-on collision.

Meanwhile, on June 27 last year, Olivia's mum was out shopping, looking forward to the weekend away with her daughter and only child on the Llyn Peninsula.

Then the phone rang, and the most terrifying news any parent could hear was ringing in her ears.

"Jo, you better be quick, there's been an accident. It's Olivia," her neighbour said.

Panic coursing through her, Jo set off up to the B5105, the country road between Clawddnewydd and Ruthin, and found herself, as she puts it, "entering hell".

A scene of utter devastation was laid out before her.

Mangled cars wreckage, police, a boy covered in blood, and in the midst of it all, emergency workers desperately pumping 17-year-old Olivia's chest as she lay lifeless on the ground.

"I was screaming, 'Is she dead? Is she dead?'. I was shouting at her, begging her to live," says Jo.

"I was telling her all the good things we had planned, going to Morfa Nefyn, and to Turkey.

"I was using all the emotional blackmail I could to get her to respond."

"I told her, 'I'm not living without you.'

Olivia's dad Mesut says he knew as he drove into the village that his daughter had died.

He describes a strange feeling washing over him as he made his way to the scene.
