Princess Beatrice reveals her joy after announcing her engagement to father-of-one property tycoon E

Princess Beatrice has become engaged to property tycoon Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, Buckingham Palace has announced today.

The royal, 31, started dating the Italian property developer, 36, who is a father-of-one, in October last year.

Beatrice and Mr Mapelli Mozzi said of their 11-month whirlwind romance in a statement: 'We are extremely happy to be able to share the news of our recent engagement.

'We are both so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together and can't wait to actually be married.

'We share so many similar interests and values, and we know that this will stand us in great stead for the years ahead, full of love and happiness.'

Engagement photos, taken by sister Princess Eugenie in the grounds of Windsor Great Park, show Beatrice wearing a green floral £595 Zimmerman dress and showing off her 3.5 carat engagement ring by Shaun Leane, estimated to have cost £100,000, along with a £2,730 Cartier love bracelet.

Princess Beatrice's engagement is a rare piece of good news for her father Prince Andrew following the death of paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, which has prompted claims that the royal slept with one of the billionaire's teenage sex slaves to resurface.

In recent weeks, the Duke of York's friendship with the disgraced businessman has once again become subject to intense scrutiny, and while Beatrice's upcoming wedding will provide a welcome distraction, the scandal could threaten to overshadow plans for the big day.
