Heartbroken mum of baby who died after being thrown into River Irwell by his own father tells of fin

The heartbroken mum of a baby boy who died after being thrown into the River Irwell has told of her final moments with her son.

Emma Blood, of River Street, Radcliffe, wrote on Facebook the family 'sat with him for hours' after she rushed to A&E to be with her child.

The little boy has been named locally as Zakari Bennett and is thought to be almost 12 months old.

In the heartbreaking Facebook post Emma said she did not know anything happened until 7pm last night and did not know her son died until she arrived at the hospital.

Distraught Emma says she only realised her son was dead when she arrived at hospital - and then 'sat with him for hours'. She goes on to say 'I am alive - although I wish I was dead instead'.

Emma posted: "I didn’t know my child was dead until I got to A & E. We sat with him for hours, we held him, we kissed him and then I left.

"I am alive, although I wish I was dead instead. LEAVE ME ALONE. Let me grieve for my child, my whole world and so much more.

"I lost MY baby today, and seen as though your all very confused let me break it down for you.

"I was not there! I didn’t touch my child! I didn’t know anything that had happened until 7pm tonight.

"I was NOT ARRESTED because believe it or not it’s all on CCTV that the police have watched and know I was NOT INVOLVED with the murder of MY child.

"I’m no crappy parent, I love my little boy and did everything for him.

Emergency services were called to reports of a child in the water near to a bridge on Blackburn Street, Radcliffe, at around 4.25pm on Wednesday.

The baby was found a short time later and taken to hospital, but died despite the efforts of medics.

A 22-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

My view: This is heartbreaking and beyond evil. Why would a parent kill his own child? their own flesh and blood?
