Boy, 16, arrested for murder of teaching assistant found in cemetery

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murdering Lindsay Birbeck, who went missing on August 12.

The teaching assistant, 47, was found dead by a member of the public in Accrington Cemetery, Lancashire, at around 8pm on Sunday.

She was last seen alive around 4pm in the nearby village of Huncoat and died as a result of strangulation, police said after confirming her identity today.

Detectives arrested the teenage suspect from Accrington who remains in custody.

Detective Supt Andy Cribbin, said: ‘The response to our earlier appeal has been absolutely overwhelming and I would like to thank everyone who has come forward with information.

‘While we have made an arrest our inquiries are very much continuing and I would continue to appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

My view: What is wrong with some teens. This is terrible, at 16 he has taken a life and ruined so many others and his own life as well.
