Rep. Ilhan Omar calls out Fox News, says she's in Congress to make "good trouble"
Rep. Ilhan Omar called out Fox News on Wednesday, saying she was “as American” as everyone else.
Omar’s comments came during an appearance on Stephen Colbert's show.
Omar said that her time in Congress — and the controversy surrounding it — has been a “process” of growth.
The Democrat congresswoman also said that when she causes pain with her words, she will listen.
Omar said, “When you tell me you are pained by something that I say, I will always listen and I will acknowledge your pain.”
She then mentioned comments made about her on Fox News, remarks she said have gone largely without rebuke from her colleagues.

“When you have people on FoxNews question whether I am actually American or I put ‘America first,’ I expect my colleagues to also say, ‘That’s not OK’, they should condemn that and call that out,” Omar said, adding it was the same when people call her a “terrorist.”
Then, Omar said this, drawing applause: “I took an oath to uphold the Constitution. I am as American as everyone else is.”

Omar also called out what she says is a double standard where she is held to account for her words, but Fox News anchors are not.
“They actually said that I might not be an American, that my loyalties might not be to this country,” Omar stressed, “but I get called out. They don’t. They get to keep their show.”
Fox News host Brian Kilmeade earlier on Wednesday said, “You have to wonder if she’s an American first.”
Kilmeade later tweeted that, he did not actually intend to question if she was an American.
"I didn't intend to question whether Rep. Omar is an American - I am questioning how any American, let alone a United States Congresswoman, could downplay the 9/11 attacks."
Kilmeade’s comment also follows Fox’s Jeanine Pirro's controversial remarks . Pirro questioned Omar’s hijab and if her religious beliefs run counter to the Constitution.
Fox News condemned Jeanine Pirro’s remarks and she was absent from her show for two weeks

My view: It's amazing how someone can come across so cool and nice on live TV from tweeting controversial comments behind the scene. If Trump can get away with offensive and provocative comments, so why can't IIhan Omar. The Democrats should act like the Republicans and let Omar be herself just as Trump is Trump, they are both loose cannon.
