Theresa May announces she will quit if Brexit deal is delivered

The prime minister reveals her plan to stand down at a meeting of the Tories' 1922 committee.

Theresa May has promised she will quit as prime minister once her Brexit deal is voted through.

Mrs May made the promise in an address to Conservative MPs in parliament.

Her move is a last-gasp attempt to persuade her own party to back her EU withdrawal agreement, which has already been twice heavily defeated in the House of Commons.

Mrs May told a gathering of the Tories' 1922 committee: "I am prepared to leave this job earlier than I intended in order to do what is right for our country and our party."

"I ask everyone in this room to back the deal so we can complete our historic duty - to deliver on the decision of the British people and leave the European Union with a smooth and orderly exit."

On his way out of parliament's committee room 14, the prime minister's former policy adviser George Freeman said he had never seen a 1922 meeting "so silenced".

He revealed there were "a series of speeches", from those who had previously opposed the prime minister's Brexit deal, to announce they will now be voting in favour of her agreement.

My view: It is sad that Theresa May was bullied out of her job. I have said all along that some Tory MPs were just making things difficult for the Prime Minister because they want the job themselves. Shameless Boris Johnson resigned from the cabinet over May's Brexit plan and now he has agreed to back the deal. What a selfish MP, it is just about Boris Johnson -me me me me, where's your integrity, he trashed and trashed Theresa May's Brexit Deal and he now wants to back the same Deal he slammed as terrible, because he wants the key to No 10 Downing Street. It's just like what former Nigerian president Obasanjo said about his former vice-president Abubakah Atiku, that "God will not forgive him" if he should support Atiku in the presidential election that was held 23 of February, but he changed his mind and supported Atiku after branding Atiku an alleged thief in Obasanjo's book My Watch published in 2014, he wrote that the money Atiku stole would feed 300million people for 400 years. That's politicians for you.? Theresa May was bullied out of office by Boris Johnson, who said May's Brexit deal is 'an appalling sell-out.' I think Michael Gove or Sajid Javid should replace Theresa May. But I am truly bored with the Brexit stuff.
