According to the city's chief prosecutor, Jamal Khashoggi was strangled as soon as he entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, then his body dismembered and destroyed in a premeditated killing
Riyadh previously said Khashoggi died in a fight in a rogue extradition operation, and has maintained that his body, intact, was wrapped up in a rug and disposed of by an unidentified “local collaborator”.
“The victim’s body was dismembered and destroyed following his death by suffocation,” Wednesday’s statement said, bolstering Turkish investigators’ line of thought that Khashoggi’s remains could have been disposed of at the nearby consul general’s house, dissolved in acid or dumped in a well on the property.
The official statement follows weeks of media reports about the murder at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on 2 October. Turkey has yet to provide evidence.
Chief prosecutor Irfan Fidan said talks with his Saudi counterpart this week led to "no concrete results".
Saudi Arabia has not commented on the meetings, BBC reported.

The Turkish statement said: "In accordance with plans made in advance, the victim, Jamal Khashoggi, was choked to death immediately after entering the Consulate General of Saudi Arabia."
Jamal Khashoggi's body was then dismembered and destroyed "again, in line with advance plans", it added.
Turkey's president is accusing Saudi Arabia of stalling the investigation into the killing of Jamal Khashoggi.
