Nakuru woman arrested for trying to infect her friend's baby with HIV
Just what kind of a trusted friend can you leave your child with?
This is the kind of question a Nakuru breastfeeding mother was left to grapple with after she found her HIV positive friend breastfeeding his baby.
Apparently Priscilla Ndung’u had left her nine months old angel to Susan, a close friend, to go grind maize at a nearby mill only to return and find her best friend, an HIV positive mother, breastfeeding the baby.
Ms Ndung’u could not believe it and took the matter to Njoro police who worked with the state prosecution office to charge Susan with knowingly spreading the deadly virus.
“On September 18 at Gichobo area in Njoro sub-county having actual knowledge that you were infected with HIV intentionally breastfed the infant which you knew or ought to have known was likely to lead to the child being infected,” read Susan’s charge before Nakuru’s Senior Principal Magistrate Joe Omido.
Susan pleaded not guilty to the charge and will wait for her bond ruling to be read tomorrow by the same court. The date for hearing the case will also be stated.
