A woman branded "the worst bride ever" has called off her wedding because guests refused to pay nearly £900 (1,500 Canadian dollars) to attend.

In a bizarre Facebook rant, the Canadian mother-of-one, named only as Susan, complained: “I just wanted to be a Kardashian for the day.”

The expletive-filled post started by announcing the wedding had been cancelled, just four days before it was meant to take place, and that she had broken up with her fiancé.

“Unfortunately,” she said, “[he] and I have broken up due to some recent and irreparable problems.”

Her dream wedding, she went on, cost just over £35,000 (60,000 Canadian dollars).

She wrote: “All we asked was for a little help from our friends and family to make it happen.

“I SPECIFICALLY, I mean SPECIFICALLY asked for cash gifts. How could we have OUR wedding that WE dreamed of without proper funding? We’d sacrificed so much and only asked each guest for around $1,500.

“We made it CLEAR. If you couldn’t contribute, you weren’t invited to our exclusive wedding. It’s a once in a lifetime party.”

To Susan’s shock, only eight people replied to the invite. Her fiancé’s family, meanwhile, refused to pay-up.

“I mean seriously people,” Susan wrote, “what is $1,000? What is $1,500? Clearly not a lot. It would be quite manageable and within budget.”

A GoFundMe page, meanwhile, was said to have raised only £150 (250 Canadian dollars).

When her fiancé suggested a quickie wedding in Las Vegas, she said: “I laughed in his face, but he was dead serious. He wanted one of those cheap, filthy, Vegas weddings.

“I mean WHAT the f**k? Was he out of his mind? Am I some piece of f**king trash, a hooker? Am I supposed to like the idea of getting married in the heart of shady gamblers, alcoholics, and the get rich fast fallacy?”

She claimed to have suffered a panic attack, and matters didn’t improve when she caught her ex and maid of honour talking about her behind her back, she said. The relationship was soon over.

Susan finished by announcing she is going to spend the next two months backpacking in South America to rid herself of toxic energy and explore her soul.

“I need to get away from this awful society,” she said.

The post, which was shared on Mumsnet, left others baffled. One posted: "Surely no one is actually that nuts?"

Another said: "The trip to South America to 'find' herself should be interesting. If no-one could come to the wedding unless they paid the requested amount and no-one did surely there is no need to inform anyone of the cancellation? The paltry amount raised on the GoFundMe page just about finished me off."

And another user said: "Based on some of the stories I've seen about wedding and cheeky f***ery, it's not beyond belief. I'd like to think it couldn't happen, but I know better..."

My view: Why ask friends to pay for your lavish wedding, it's your wedding, pay for it and stop being greedy. If this story is true, it's beyond belief.
