Rodrigo Duterte is known for his tough anti-crime policies. The Philippines president said the destruction was meant to show the country as a place of investment and his strong stance against illegal importers.

Duterte inspected the supercars before they were destroyed in the town of Sta Ana in the north of the country.

Duterte said: "I did this because you have to show to the world that you have a viable place of investment and business.

"And the only way to show it is that you are productive and that you have the economy, to absorb the productivity of the population."

My view: Such a pointless waste, no common-sense, why not sell the cars to big companies and invest the money in education or give to millions of Filipinos living in extreme poverty and lacking the means to feed themselves. This guy is a sad case, I hear about Duterte is well loved by 80% of Filipinos and yet almost a third of the population live below the poverty level. Despite improvements in the country’s economic indicators, more than 26 million Filipinos remain poor, with about 12 million living in extreme poverty and over 4 million living in slums. Ofcourse he's sending a message to those who can afford to eat.
