Mum of man who knocked woman out says she’s taking him down to the police station

Culled from Metro

The mother of a 20-year-old man who knocked out a woman outside a nightclub has said she will march him down to the police station, Metro reported.

Liam Holmes was filmed punching a fellow reveller to the pavement outside Essex nightclub Faces in London on Saturday at around 3am.

His mum Cathy Holmes, 53, told MailOnline: ‘The clip online showing him hitting the girl makes him look bad but that’s only a fraction of the real story.

‘People will judge him on the back of that video clip but he’s no terror.

‘He wouldn’t do that for no reason. That’s all I’ll say for now because we’re about to meet with our solicitor to go to the police station and give a statement.’

She said police had assured them they would have access to the full CCTV footage to understand what had happened beforehand.

Cathy explained that she had a brain haemorrhage a while back and that Liam had been her carer, adding that he hardly goes out anymore ‘and when he does this happens’.

Metropolitan Police confirmed it was treating the incident as grievous bodily harm and that the woman had been taken to hospital.

A spokesman for the force said: ‘Police in Redbridge are investigating after a woman was assaulted outside Faces nightclub on Cranbrook Road, IG2.

‘The incident took place at approximately 03am on Saturday, 28 July.

‘The victim was taken to hospital for treatment.

The incident is being treated as GBH. No arrests have been made.’

During the nine-second clip, the woman can be seen approaching Liam before moving up very closely to his face.

The pair seemed to argue about something before Liam pulls his arm out and punches her in the face twice.

The 21-year-old has been heavily criticised since the video started circulating online.

One wrote: ‘A real man wouldn’t do that.’

Another person added: ‘Another coward.’

A third said: ‘What a shit house.’

With another one saying: ‘Not in any way condoning what he did… But I’d love to know what she said when she got in his face.’

My view: There's just no excuse for what he did to that woman, it's bad optics.
