Tragic girl, 11, dies after having huge asthma attack as she returned home from mum's funeral

An 11-year-old girl has died after suffering an asthma attack while returning home from her mum's funeral, Mirror reported.

Syira Coutain-Harebin was taken ill in the car after the service and suffered another major attack while being treated by doctors in hospital.

Her death came just weeks after the sudden death of her mum Mary Coutain - who was known to friends and family as Chiney.

Friends and family have been left reeling by the double tragedy, and classmates have left moving tributes at the West London school Syira attended.

The youngster, who had celebrated her 11th birthday less than a month earlier, died on June 1, despite frantic efforts to save her.

A friend revealed she was rushed to hospital, but medics were unable to save her life.

Stunned pal Anne-Marie Riddle, whose son went to school with Syira, wrote on a JustGiving pageset up in memory of the young girl: "I am broken to have lost a dear friend and now her little girl so tragically and suddenly."

And the mum, a close friend of event planner Chiney, continued: "The school community is reeling and her poor family are bereft and utterly devastated with grief.

"To have lost their mother and sister in such a short space of time has destroyed them."

Friend Jackie Nugent described their deaths as "totally heartbreaking" and wrote on the fundraising page: "I guess mummy Chiney needed her baby girl and her baby girl needed her mummy."

Anne-Marie said Syira should have been starting high school in September, and classmates are devastated by her death.

She wrote: "She was the sweetest, dearest little girl. Loving and smart and funny with wonderful manners and always smiling."

And her heartbreaking message concluded: "We all adored you Syira. Your classmates and their parents are absolutely grief stricken. We will never forget you, darling girl."

In a letter to parents, Clare Walsh, headteacher at Mouth Carmel Catholic Primary School in Ealing, wrote: "There are no words to describe the shock and sadness that is in the school at the moment."

Mrs Walsh said schoolchildren have been leaving tributes at a temporary memorial to Syira, and the school is raising money for a permanent memorial.

My view: The double tragedy is so sad.
