'Capricious': Donald Tusk blasts Trump 'With friends like that who needs enermies'

The President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, has said the European Union should be grateful to US President Donald Trump, for forcing it to rid itself of all illusions.

Speaking to reporters before an EU summit in Bulgaria, he accused Washington of "capricious assertiveness" in abandoning the Iran nuclear deal and imposing tariffs on steel and aluminium imports.

Tusk said the US seems to be hesitating in hitting European companies doing business in Iran with sanctions, he said the EU still needed to be ready to protect its interests. It was crucial, Tusk said, that the EU stuck to its guns and refused to discuss trade with the US until it received a permanent exemption from punitive tariffs on steel and aluminium imposed by Washington on the grounds of national security.

“The EU and US are friends and partners, therefore US tariffs cannot be justified on the basis of national security,” he said. “It is absurd to even think that the EU could be a threat to the US. We need to bring back reality in this discussion, which is not the case today.”

Scroll down and hear from Donald Tusk himself:

My view: Nice words from Donald Tusk, 'if you need a hand in hand you'll find one at the end of your arm', 'with friends like That who needs enermies. Trump is a bully and he doesn't care if he's hurting anyone, as he wants everyone to grovels to him, Trump is ghastly.
