Storm Emma: Met Office weather warning in force as region braces itself for yet more snow Army calle

A yellow weather warning is in place across Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire as the 'Beast from the East' is set to return.

The Met Office has issued the yellow weather warning until 11.55pm tonight (March 2) with another then in place for tomorrow morning until 9am.

Current forecasts suggest there could be snow in the afternoon but roads remain icy as temperatures look set to remain below zero and winds could reach up to 49mph.

The Met Office forecaster said: "Further outbreaks of sleet and snow will steadily edge northwards through the day.

The brightest conditions in the north, where it will be drier. Remaining windy and bitterly cold for all.

"A cold and windy night with further outbreaks of sleet and snow across all areas, possibly bringing further accumulations in places."

Maximum temperatures today will be around -1 °C with minimum set to be -5 °C.

In preparation for today's weather almost hundred schools have already announced they are closed across the region and some roads remain closed due to snow.

BBC reports that the Army has been called in to help rescue hundreds of drivers stuck in snow, as freezing conditions continue across much of the UK.

Hundreds of passengers were also trapped on a freezing train overnight.

Two major incidents have been declared by police in Hampshire and Avon and Somerset, as blizzards brought many roads to a standstill.

Many face a fourth day of disruption, as trains and flights are cancelled and thousands of schools are shut.

There are 10 severe weather warnings in place for the UK. The final warning is in force until 23:55 GMT on Monday.

National Grid's first "gas deficit warning" for eight years has been withdrawn. The power operator issued the warning on Thursday, saying it might not have enough gas to meet demand due to the cold.

My view: It's bitterly cold, my area is covered with snow, it's windy, but beautiful.
