LONDON WEATHER: CAPITAL COULD SEE FLURRIES OF SNOW AS COLD SNAP CONTINUES TO GRIP UK

Londoners could see more flurries of snow as a cold snap continues to grip Britain for another 24 hours.

Temperatures are likely to plunge to below freezing tonight with the capital waking to potentially wintry showers early on Friday morning.

But the chilly spell will come to an end by the weekend, when temperatures are expected to become milder.

Office workers in the capital were left delighted on Thursday as parts of the capital including Holborn, Lothbury, Beckenham and Blackheath saw the first snowfall of winter.

Elsewhere in the UK saw heavier snow as temperatures dropped to -10C in Scotland and -5 in other parts of the country.

Forecasting for London, Met Office weather expert Chris Page said: “There are a few possible showers overnight in London, some of those might be wintry.

“It will be a cold and chilly start to the day, a few showers but these will begin to ease throughout the day with some decent sunny spells tomorrow.”

Friday is likely to have slightly higher temperatures than today, which saw lows in London of 4C, before the capital becomes warmer over the weekend with highs of 9C.

This week’s cold snap comes as the UK gears up for the official beginning of winter on December 1.

According to the meteorological season, which is based on annual temperature cycles, weather runs from December until the end of February.

The rest of Britain will see temperatures turn milder by next week, with some overnight fog and light rain possible, the Met Office said.

On Wednesday, parts of the country including the north east of England was blanketed by a layer of snow as forecasters warned of possible disruption and plunging temperatures.

The Met Office had issued yellow warnings for icy patches and snow covering swathes of England and northern Scotland, and for ice in western Wales, Cornwall and much of Northern Ireland
