REAL MADRID SUPERSTAR CRISTIANO RONALDO BIZARRE STATUE: SCULPTOR EMANUEL SANTOS DEFENDS HIS STRANG
Sculptor Emanuel Santos said the bust, unveiled on the Portuguese island of Madeira, was "not as simple as it seems" to create.
The unveiling of the Ronaldo statue led many on social media to question if the work resembles the player.
It was disclosed at a ceremony to name the island's airport after him.
Santos said: "It is impossible to please the Greeks and Trojans. Neither did Jesus please everyone," Mr Santos said.
He said that his creation was "not as simple as it seems" to produce, adding that it took him 15 days to complete and that the finished item "was a matter of taste", the Guardian newspaper reports.
Some said the statue looked more like former Republic of Ireland captain Niall Quinn pictured.
My opinion: The statue doesn't look like Cristiano Ronaldo, maybe the Sculptor was trying to experiment something different and it worked as he's now more famous than Donald J Trump!
